Heart Conditions We Treat

Dr. Dhoot diagnoses and manages a wide range of cardiac conditions, including:

Coronary Artery Disease

When the arteries feeding the heart get narrowed or blocked by plaque buildup, often the underlying cause behind chest pain or a heart attack.

Heart Valve Disorders (mitral and aortic valve disease)

When a valve doesn’t open or close properly, the heart has to work harder — this includes conditions like mitral regurgitation or aortic stenosis.

Arrhythmias and abnormal heart rhythms

The heart beating too fast, too slow, or irregularly sometimes harmless, sometimes a sign of something that needs closer attention.

Hypertension-related heart complications

Long-term high blood pressure puts extra strain on the heart, and over time, can lead to thickening, stiffness, or reduced pumping efficiency.

Congenital heart defects such as ASD

Structural issues present from birth, like an abnormal opening between heart chambers, which may need monitoring or a closure procedure later in life.

Heart failure and related structural conditions

When the heart can’t pump blood as efficiently as it should, often due to weakened muscle or structural changes — leading to fatigue, breathlessness, or fluid retention over time.
Each patient’s treatment plan is built around their specific diagnosis, using the most appropriate and least invasive option available.

When Should You Consult a Cardiologist?

You don’t need to wait for an emergency to see a heart specialist. Consider a consultation if you notice:
Chest pain, tightness, or discomfort
Shortness of breath during routine activity
Unexplained fatigue or
dizziness
Irregular or rapid heartbeat (palpitations)
Swelling in the legs, ankles,
or feet
A family history of heart
disease
High blood pressure, diabetes, or high cholesterol
Early consultation often makes the difference between simple management and complex treatment later on.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What are the early signs of heart disease?

More often it’s small stuff — chest tightness that comes and goes, getting winded walking up stairs you used to take without thinking, feeling drained for no obvious reason. Dizzy spells, a heartbeat that suddenly feels wrong, ankles that look a bit puffier than usual. Any one of these alone probably isn’t an emergency, but it’s not something to just sit on either — get it looked at.

2. When should I see a cardiologist?

There’s this idea that you only go to a cardiologist after something’s already gone wrong. Not true. If you’re dealing with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or diabetes, that’s reason enough on its own. Same if heart disease runs in the family — genetics matter more than people think. And obviously, if you’re getting chest pain, an irregular heartbeat, or you’re short of breath more than you should be, don’t wait around.

3. What is coronary angiography, and when is it needed?

Think of it as a roadmap of sorts — a contrast dye goes into the bloodstream, and X-ray imaging picks up exactly where the coronary arteries are narrowed or blocked. It’s not something doctors order for every mild symptom. Usually it comes up after chest pain that doesn’t have an easy explanation, a stress test that came back abnormal, or other signs that point toward coronary artery disease.

4. What's the difference between angiography and angioplasty?

People mix these up constantly, and fair enough — they sound similar. Angiography just looks. It tells you where an artery’s blocked or narrowed, nothing more. Angioplasty actually does something about it: a balloon opens up the blockage, and a stent usually goes in afterward to keep things flowing the way they should.

5. What conditions does an interventional cardiologist treat?

Quite a lot, actually. Coronary artery disease, heart attacks, blocked arteries, valve problems, certain structural issues a person might be born with, and some rhythm disorders too. The common thread isn’t the diagnosis — it’s the method. Most of this gets handled through a catheter, not a scalpel.

6. How can I reduce my risk of heart disease?

Nothing here is going to shock you. Eat reasonably, move your body regularly, keep an eye on blood pressure and cholesterol, don’t let diabetes go unmanaged. Skip the tobacco, go easy on alcohol, and try not to let stress run the show.
